The application of HTS power cables to improve efficiency of large power systems has commenced about a decade ago. Today, several multi-megawatt cables are under daily operation in Germany, Korea, USA, China and Japan, helping to reduce environmental impact. First Russian HTS cable is to be built in Saint Petersburg by ROSSETI Federal Grid Company. Significant energy loss reduction can be achieved also by using HTS cables in electrolysis plants and in high-current output systems of large power plants.
