Superconducting Fault Current Limiters

Home / Projects / Superconducting Fault Current Limiters

Superconducting Fault Current Limiter (SFCL) is a new type of equipment for electric power industry. SFCL provides protection for city grids during faults. Utilization of SFCL reduces requirements for adjacent grid equipment which provides economic benefit. SuperOx possesses a complete technological chain for the manufacture of SFCL for any type of electric grid as well as competences for design, integration and service of superconducting power equipment.

SFCL 220 kV in Moscow city grid

First Russian 220 kV SFCL was commissioned by SuperOx in 2019 at the 220 kV substation in Moscow. This device operates in grid continuously since commissioning. During 2019-2023 period SFCL confirmed its design, successively limiting fault currents in grid. More on SFCL performance
