HTS power сables enable low-loss electric power transmission, while taking up several times less space. In addition, they do not emit heat and electromagnetic radiation.
The use of superconducting power cables in megacities and industrial applications will add to the worldwide efforts to reduce carbon emissions
The application of HTS power cables to improve efficiency of large power systems has commenced about a decade ago. Today, several multi-megawatt cables are under daily operation in Germany, Korea, USA, China and Japan, helping to reduce environmental impact. First Russian HTS cable is to be built in Saint Petersburg by ROSSETI Federal Grid Company. Significant energy loss reduction can be achieved also by using HTS cables in electrolysis plants and in high-current output systems of large power plants.
